Primary Objective(s) of Position

53 years on, AWWA is looking to enhance our brand, persona and communications strategy with a team that is as diverse as the clients we serve. With over 20 different services within a single organisation, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly competent Communications professional to lead a team of Communications Specialists to craft, own and contribute to a single organisational narrative, be creative with service-specific communications strategies, and to guide the team in building both traditional and new media skills.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the COO, the incumbent will lead and drive AWWA’s full suite of communication functions through:

• Creating a comprehensive integrated communications calendar of activities on an annual basis with clear metrics

• Leading the overarching communications strategy with details like singular positioning statements, key messages, message pillars, et cetera

• Fleshing out a strategy to grow the AWWA community – to story-tell, engage, drive awareness, and enhance brand awareness and recall

• Managing including public and media relations

• Curating a template for Signature Events (e.g. Admin Briefs, Guest-of-Honour invites, talking points, event management logistics, et cetera)

• Leading internal communications with Human Resources

• Curating executive and strategic communications (e.g. writing emails, speeches, facilitating media interviews)

• Being the lead custodian for branding

• Lead crisis communications, including training and simulation

• Providing communications counsel and support to senior management, and various service units.

• Leading reputation management by working with internal and external stakeholders

• Participating in cross-functional projects

• Managing an in-house team and external agencies

• Upholding good governance through accurate reporting and by leading the creation of the Annual Report (on an annual rotational basis) in collaboration with the COO

Job Requirements

• Strong communications professional with six to seven years of experience either in-house or with a PR agency. At least three of those years must have been in a supervisory position

• Proven track record of successful, creative strategic communication management

• Able to build communication plans – strategic and tactical – and to oversee and drive their execution and measurement

• Experience in interacting with staff across different levels and community partners through good stakeholder management

• Adept at media relations

• Savvy in digital and content marketing, the social media space and emerging trends

• Excellent command of English and one other vernacular language

• Good situational judgement and critical thinking skills

• Passion for social impacts and outcomes
